Release party for 'A Season of Night' TONIGHT!!!

The New Orleans Saints will celebrate the release of Ian McNulty's "A Season of Night" tonight with a pre-season game scheduled to begin immediately after my latest book reading. Watch for the Saints to use some new tribute plays inspired by the book, including the "blackout" defense and the "can opener" red zone play.

To mark the unique double-billing, the Ruby Slipper Café in Mid-City will open for a special after-work happy hour/book signing event. The kitchen will provide complimentary appetizers, there will be bar specials on sangria, rum drinks and Abita beer and McNulty will read from, sign and sell his book.

Synopsis: "Shot over a four year period in Austin TX, and utilizing both verite footage and interviews, Hell on Wheels documents the creation of modern-era roller derby's first two leagues.

After overcoming countless hurdles, the rowdy rollergirls known as Bad Girl, Good Woman enjoy a smashingly successful first year, only to find a rift, fueled by issues of insurance, finance and future direction, forming among the ranks of the skaters.

Ultimately, 65 of 80 skaters walk and form their own player-run league. Dealt a near fatal blow, management doesn't give up. Instead, they recruit and rebuild their league to rebound in dramatic fashion. Two leagues emerge from the near-disaster - the Lonestar Rollergirls and the Texas Rollergirls - and both pioneer a modern era of roller derby, inspiring thousands of women across the US.

Directed by Bob Ray. USA. 2007. 90 mins.

"Hell on Wheels is an epic doc. It's fast, fun, and inspiring." - Chris Gore (founder, Film Threat Magazine)"

Hope to see you there!
