Release party for 'A Season of Night' TONIGHT!!!

The New Orleans Saints will celebrate the release of Ian McNulty's "A Season of Night" tonight with a pre-season game scheduled to begin immediately after my latest book reading. Watch for the Saints to use some new tribute plays inspired by the book, including the "blackout" defense and the "can opener" red zone play.

To mark the unique double-billing, the Ruby Slipper Café in Mid-City will open for a special after-work happy hour/book signing event. The kitchen will provide complimentary appetizers, there will be bar specials on sangria, rum drinks and Abita beer and McNulty will read from, sign and sell his book.

Click here for the latest reviews.

What: book reading, signing and social

When: Thursday, Aug. 7, beginning at 6 pm

Where: Ruby Slipper Café; 139 S. Cortez St. (behind Mandina's), 309-5531

The Saints kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be shown at Finn McCool's, the Mid-City Yacht Club, Pal's Lounge and other great Mid-City bars nearby.

I'm not one to get really political but I made an online petition today in hopes that Drew Barrymore uses the song "Roller Derby Saved My Soul" by Uncle Leon & The Alibis for WHIP IT!

The song is already a "hit" amongst the roller derby community. That the movie's being shot in Ann Arbor, a stone's throw from where Uncle Leon grew up and went to college, is another good tie-in. And, really, Uncle Leon is a heck of a guy.

Please take a few minutes to stop by and sign the petition:

For more information (including a youtube clip that uses the song), check out my blog at:
