BERG vs. The Carolina Tai Chi-Tahs Recap

On January 19th The Tai Chi-Tahs from the Carolina Rollergirls came to New Orleans to take on the Big Easy Rollergirls at Airline Skate Center.

Despite the early hour, both teams were prepared for the fight. Captains Balls-Out Betty and Shay-Bay were ready to go up against Captains Minnie Mauser and Betty Rumble and their 2006 & 2007 championship team.

The Big Easy Rollergirls skated without two of their valuable players, F.N. Trouble, who was injured in a car accident, and Ibeatya Amber, who had a family emergency and was unable to attend. The Tai Chi-Tahs missed one of their key players, Heavens to Betsy.

Trouble, along with Squirtalicious, served as bench coaches.

CHEAP THR!LL teamed up as a guest announcer with The Reverend Psych Ward.

The Big Easy Rollergirls continued their fight despite a 14-point jam by Betty Rumble in the beginning of the second half. The Big Easy Rollergirls worked their defensive strategy and prevented The Tai Chi-Tahs from scoring for five jams. But the early damage was done and BERG was unable to secure a win.

The final score was 41 to 106.

Balls-Out Betty was the lead scorer for BERG with 12 points, while Betty Rumble scored 1/3 of her team points to be the top scorer at 36 points.

Balls-Out Betty also had the honor of racking up the most penalties for BERG with 13 minors and 2 majors. Blaze Scarr was the good girl of the team with no penalties!

Princess America scored 15 minors and 1 major, while Train Wreck racked up 11 minors and 3 majors.

The majority of the penalties on both sides were for skating out of bounds and cutting the track with elbows being a close second.

Luckily, there were no major injuries, just some broken hearts at having to say goodbye to The Tai Chi-Tahs so early. Captain Balls-Out Betty stated, “It was such an honor to skate against the Tai-Chi-Tahs! Those ladies are so great at playing fun derby, I felt I came away with some new skills. Princess America had a smile on her face that was contagious and lasted throughout the bout. Betty Rumble with her cat-like leaps, amazing! It was also awesome skating as a united front representing the Big Easy Roller Girls! I love all 'em grrrrrls!”

The Big Easy Rollergirl look forward to some more bouts with one of our favorite teams.
