So, you want to dance like Bella Blue? For those of you who wondered how you could move like Bella after witnessing her burlesque prowess at The Fleur de Wheelie Awards, now is your chance!

Bella's Burlesque 101 Class meets every Thursday from 6:30 - 7:30 at The Crescent Lotus Dance Studio on 3143 Calhoun. For only $10 you can channel your "inner burlesque dancer." This sexy workout is for everyone. No experience necessary. All you need is a pair of high heels!

This Thursday, September 3rd, you can witness the prodigious effects of Bella's personal tutelage when her class has their 2nd Burlesque 101 Student Showcase. It's at the Allways Lounge 2240 St. Claude Ave at 9pm. Cost is $5 at the door. Come for the show; sign up for the class!

The Big Easy Rollergirls in Krewe of O.A.K

Join the Big Easy Rollergirls and The Krewe of O.A.K (Outrageous and Kinky) this Saturday, August 29th for their annual 1.25 mile loop of Carrollton Street in celebration of Mid-Summer Mardi Gras.

The festivities start 8 PM at the Maple Leaf Bar on 8316 Oak Street.

The parade rambles through the Riverbend and Carrollton neighborhoods with a brass band, The Bearded Oysters Marching Troupe, the premier of the dance troupe The Muff-A-Lottas, and several mini-floats.

Everyone is welcome and inappropriate costumes are even more welcome!

The Third Annual Fleur de Wheelie Awards

Time for the third annual Fleur de Wheelie Awards.

This year's award ceremony is going to be held Saturday, August 22nd at one of our favorite local hangouts, Finn McCools on 3701 Banks Street.



Hosted by our very own, Rev Psych Ward and Skip 4-Play, the pre-award festivities begin at 6PM, awards start promptly at 7PM.

There will be scrumptious food, our very own specially mixed BERG shot, and a cupcake station!

WFA International Bowl

The First Annual WFA International Bowl will be held this Saturday, August 15th at Pan Am Stadium in City Park.

Our own New Orleans Blaze will kick off the event at 4PM, taking on Monterrey Mexico's Royal Angels.

The National Championship game will follow at 7PM with West Michigan Mayhem vs. St. Louis Slam.

Krewe of Rolling Elvi Second Line!

One of the great additions to our Big Easy Rollergirls family has been the Krewe of the Rolling Elvi. You can see them at almost all of our bouts Taking Care of Business.



The next business at hand is an important one. Each year, the KRE celebrates the Birth and Death of Elvis A. Presley. For this year's Death Day, join the KRE for their first annual Second Line for the King's Charity, Children's Hospital.

This Saturday, August 15th KRE will be presenting a Second Line and Block Party. It kicks off at The Kingpin (1307 Lyons ) at 3PM. They will groove, karate chop, and pose their way down to Le Bon Temps, followed by 45 Tchoup and back. All the way they will be accompanied by some of The Big Easy Rollergirls and the vocal stylings of DC Harbold of Clockwork Elvis!

Following the Second Line, The Kingpin will hosting a block party, once again featuring DC, as well as the World Famous Spins of Dr. Gumbo's Blue Suede Soundsystem!

The Nola Bulls will also be in attendance lending their support!

BERG and Dirty Linen this Saturday, August 8th

The Big Easy Rollergirls are proud to be a part of Dirty Linen for the fourth year.

We will doing demos, running drills, and participating in some general rabble-rousing on Saturday, August 8th, from 6pm to 9pm, rain or humidity. One of our wonderful announcers, Skip 4Play will be on hand to guide you through our festivities. Find out about our upcoming events and our Lagniappe Season!

We will be in front of the Robert Guthrie Gallery on 736 Royal.

Dirty Linen Night is produced by and for the unique artists, shops and galleries in the heart of the French Quarter.

Free and open to the public, the shops will welcome visitors into their businesses from 6pm to 9pm, and will offer refreshments and a chance to meet the artists and owners. Beginning in the 1000 block of Royal Street, there will be more than one-hundred unique venues to visit.

Please keep this unique tradition alive, come out to support the art and the artists!

Favorite Moments from the Bull Run

During the early morning of July 11, 2009 the streets of the French Quarter were packed with revelers dressed in white and red attire. Over 3,000 brave runners converged to wager the risk (or fortune) of being gored by a Big Easy Rollergirl.



Over 75 rollergirls from around the Southeast took part in the 3rd Annual Running of the Bulls.

Here are some of our very own Big Easy Rollergirls Favorite Moments.

Beatrix sKiddo: The many hours of enjoyment to follow the bull run! I had a fan buy me my first Sangria of the morning.




Bubbles von Vieux: Seeing my hubs on CNN saying "Day hit me so hard, she knocked the moustache right off my face!!!" Love the Yat accent!!!




Jambot: Some dude wanted me to take a picture with him and then he told me that I was his favorite rollergirl!




Joan Cougar Menstrualcramp: At the "end" of the race, people were caught off guard by us still hitting them.




lacy underalls: Carrying home a broken bat after a long day of beatings.




Louise Ze Animal - Without a doubt, my favorite moment was when SmasHer and I got to gore an NOPD officer!




Lush Fatale: By the second half I ended up way in front of the bull pack so I was able to sneak up on big groups of people and start yelling like a banshee from about 20 feet back. Ohh man, would they scatter! True fear! Running on top of their friends, scaling cars, falling down- awesome.




Mudflap Girl - Beating my husband's ass on national television (CNN)… Annual family-style breakfast at Flannigan's (post-bull run)… A fan buying me a popsicle…
Seeing people I have not seen in 15 YEARS…When guys see they are about to be beaten, they run squealing.




Ruffit: My favorite moment was rolling up on Moxie and inviting her to get her revenge. She WAILED on me so good it made my heart sing! Much derby love to her.




Skip4play: Skip's favorite moments included the multiple-location afterparties starting with the six-course breakfast and beer at Flannagan's and culminating more than 12 hours later somewhere in the Marigny. Ya'll are champs! Dionysus and Bacchus couldn't keep up.




SmasHer: Many favorite moments: Seeing Trixie first thing in the morning always makes me smile, when me and Animal walked into Turtle Bay to get a drink and the whole bar gave us a standing ovation, the man with the fancy shaved chest hair, getting “pressured” into jumping rope and having the crowds’ chant change from “Rollergirl” to “SmasHer.” All of the general mayhem, wackiness, eccentricity and beauty that is New Orleans.




Trixie la Femme: My cousin, Madame Bustya, referee for Red Stick, and I were catching the 6:30 ferry from Algiers. We saw people in white and red dashing for the ferry. And we laughed and felt such camaraderie with all the people up that early, with a common goal of being ridiculous and anticipating whacks and adrenaline rushes. The ferry guys are starting to get with the program. They know us crazy rollergirls with out bullhorns now! And when we got to the French Quarter, more white and red… So much anticipation in the air. Also I was very grateful that this year so many bars and restaurants were prepared for our crush-post run! Yay for new traditions!




Victoria von Doom: The whole experience was great! Finally getting to participate in the bull run after being on crutches for the past two was good for my derby heart. I finally feel like Victoria von Doom again! Also - I really enjoyed interacting with so many old and new fans post-bull run. I can't wait to see you all at the next bout!

Welcome BERG Newbies

In May of this year, The Big Easy Rollergirls held tryouts. Many adventure-seeking women answered the call. Almost thirty of them made the cut.

All of our new recruits have what it takes to make it as a rollergirl: strength, tenacity, intelligence, and a sui generis approach to derby fashion.

Right now, they are hard at work, practicing two to three times a week. They are currently working on skating stance, falls, crossovers, agility, and endurance.





In no time, they will be delivering the hard hits and whips with the rest of The Big Easy Rollergirls.

It's Bull Time Again!

The 3rd Annual Running of the Bulls is almost here, where the Sangria flies almost as quickly as the rollerbulls.



San Fermin in Nueva Orleans (SFNO) replicates and pays homage to the world famous Encierro of Pamplona, Spain, or "The Running of the Bulls", only our bulls are none other than members of The Big Easy Rollergirls!




This year, San Fermin in Nueva Orleans will be celebrated on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at precisely 8:00 a.m. We will also be doubling our bulls with appearances by The Red Stick Roller Derby, Houston Roller Derby, Cajun RollerGirls, and Jacksonville Rollergirls.

The pre-festivities will “officially” begin at 6:30 am at the Three Legged Dog  on 400 Burgundy Street in the French Quarter section of New Orleans. Sangria, Spanish wines, and good cheer will be available. The Three Legged Dog is a local, 24-hour bar with local attitude- serving big drinks as long as you’re serving big tips!

There will be a special guest appearance by New Orleans' own The Krewe of The Rolling Elvi!

At precisely 8am the run will begin.

The run will end at the Gazebo Cafe in Latrobe Park on 1018 Decatur Street, where more Sangria, Spanish wine, tapas and good cheer will be available.

After the bull run, the afterparty immediately starts. DJ Dub Insurgent (former resident DJ in Buenos Aires, Argentina at La Cigale and recent opener for Manu Chao in New Orleans) will be holding down the turntables, and a general block-party will ensue.

RUNNERS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR (ANY KIND OF) WHITE SHIRT, WHITE PANTS OR SHORTS, AND A PIECE OF RED CLOTH ABOUT THE WAIST AND NECK.

The Encierro is FREE and requires no registration -- just show up and RUN!

This year, the charity is Animal Rescue of New Orleans (ARNO). 

The ARNO is an organization created and dedicated to the rescue and aid of abandoned and homeless animals in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi, including responding to the immediate needs of those animals in need of medical care, or who have been neglected, abused and deprived of love. ARNO promotes the foster, adoption, and reunion of pets with caretakers, as well as spaying/neutering of all companion animals.

At this point you might be asking yourself "Why?", to which we can only respond, "¿Por què no?"

Lagniappe Charity Bout!

The Big Easy Rollergirls kick off their Lagniappe Season with a charity bout for those who keep us safe.

We are donating a portion of our June 27th bout proceeds to local Fire Fighters and Police, as well as our volunteer EMTs. Several of the firefighters will be in attendance sell AND sign their calendar their New Orleans Fire Fighters Look Hot Calendar. Several other firefighters involved with The NOFD mentoring program will also be selling patches and t-shirts to support their activities.

The doors open at 6 PM and the action starts at 7 PM at The Human Performance Center at The University of New Orleans.

Watch The Crime Fighters take on The Fire Fighters! The teams will be mixed with all of your favorite local skaters.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. You can buy your tickets online NOW!

The afterparty will be held at Molly's at the Market located at 1107 Decatur in the French Quarter.

The Big Easy Rollergirls in Memphis

If you are in Memphis this weekend, come out and watch The Big Easy Rollergirls take on The Memphis Roller Derby on Saturday, June 20th for their Rollin' on the River Bout.



Located at The Mid-South Fairgrounds, Youth Building, 940 Early Maxwell Blvd.

The doors open at 6 PM and the action starts at 7 PM. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 5 to 12, and kids 4 and under are free.

Come Try Your Hand at the Monaghan-Koehlar First Annual “Water’s Thicker Than Blood” Poker Crawl benefiting the Youth Rescue Initiative

The Monaghan and Koehlars' will be remembering Jim Monaghan with the ultimate tribute: a Poker Crawl led from bar to bar throughout the French Quarter with a parade featuring Bagpipes and The Big Easy Rollergirls.

Kicking off at 13 Monaghan, participants will receive their first card before following the bagpipes to Molly’s at the Market, Jim Monaghan’s flagship bar. The third and fourth cards are dealt at the Boondock Saint and BBC, and by the time the parade hits Erin Rose participants will have a full hand to be judged.

In addition to getting commemorative t-shirt with each hand played, cash prizes will be awarded:
